  1. Birth Control is the practice of preventing
  2. conception for the purpose of limiting the
  3. number of births; also called contraception
  4. and family planning. The concept of birth
  5. control was first devised in the UK where the
  6. problems of overpopulation were brought to
  7. light. The first birth control clinic was 
  8. opened in the US in 1916. On an international
  9. level, birth control is led by the 
  10. International Planned Parenthood Federation
  11. which was founded in 1952. In many countries
  12. such as Japan and Sweden the government 
  13. provides birth control assistance to its 
  14. people in order to limit the population 
  15. growth. Other contraceptive methods include,
  16. for males, withdrawal before ejaculation,
  17. use of a condom placed over the penis, or
  18. sterilization by VASECTOMY. Contraception
  19. for females include the precoital use of
  20. spermicidal vaginal foam or jelly, use of a
  21. diaphragm, which is a cup-shaped device
  22. inserted into the vagina before intercourse
  23. and prevents sperm from traveling to the egg,
  24. use of an INTRAUTERINE_DEVICE, and "the pill"
  25. ( see ORAL_CONTRACEPTIVE ).
  26. Surgical sterilization for women includes 
  27. tubal ligation, which is the severing or 
  28. sealing of the Fallopian tubes. In the early
  29. 1990's a new contraceptive was introduced to 
  30. the market, a female version of the condom.
